Understanding Student Health at UW

The American College Health Association – National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) is a nationally recognized survey that collects data on college students’ health habits, behaviors, and perceptions. The University of Washington (UW) Seattle campus, as an ACHA institutional member, participated in the Spring 2025 survey period to better understand the health and well-being of our student community and to inform future Student Life programs, services and policy development.

Survey Summary

  • Survey Period: January – February 2025 (Spring 2025 administration)
  • Duration: 28 days
  • Population: UW Seattle students
  • Sample Size: 10,000 students invited
  • Responses: Over 1,500 completed surveys
  • Funding: UW Student Life
  • Purpose: Internal assessment to inform program, service and policy development to enhance the UW student experience

UW Institutional NCHA Data

UW faculty, staff, and students may request access to NCHA data for UW internal assessment purposes only.

Three types of requests will be considered:

  1. Raw Data (Selected Columns):
  2. Custom Analyses or Summarized Data:
    • Available to requestors who are not authorized to work with FERPA-protected UW data or do not have data analysis capability.
    • Please note that requests requiring new analysis or FERPA suppression may take significantly longer to fulfill.
  3. Executive Summary Only
    • ACHA’s Executive Summary of UW’s Spring 2025 institutional results is available upon request.

Important: All requests must clearly state the intended use of the data for UW internal assessment purposes only.

Secondary Analysis

Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval was not sought for this internal assessment, and therefore informed consent was not solicited from survey respondents. Requests for access to survey data for secondary analysis without IRB approval will not be considered.

ACHA-NCHA Reference Group Data

ACHA has published an executive summary and reference group report containing the combined results of all 97 institutions that participated in the Spring 2025 NCHA.
