A center for student advocacy, training and education
Mission
LiveWell draws on the combined strength of the individual student, the communities in which they live, and the resources of the University to enhance the academic experience for all students. LiveWell supports the personal and social development of students by providing evidence-based information and education to help enhance life skills. Our mission is to engage, support, and to prepare students with the skills and knowledge that will benefit them throughout their time at UW and beyond.
Values
LiveWell is committed to promoting respect, understanding and appreciation of differences, and the constructive expression of ideas. LiveWell provides services to all students with respect and honoring students’ individual identity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, or socioeconomic status.
Programs and Services:
Alcohol & Other Drug Education
Our Alcohol & Other Drug Education Program provides students with evidence-based information on alcohol and other drugs and helps students address any possible impacts their individual use may be having socially and/or academically. We work with students one-on-one or in groups, combining evidence-based strategies and prevention practices to support students.
Peer Health Educators
Peer Health Educators (PHEs) are students trained by LiveWell staff who are dedicated to educating their peers on various health and wellness topics. PHEs facilitate educational workshops, organize awareness campaigns and host events throughout the year. Contact us if you’d like to schedule a peer-facilitated workshop in your community or collaborate with the PHEs to host a health-related event.
Student Care
Student Care is a starting point for students in distress and in need of multiple levels of support. We provide wellness coaching to help untangle complex situations (students unable to rely on family, not in a good living situation, not connected to health services, experiencing housing instability, or food insecurity, etc.). We listen without judgment and believe that students are experts in their own lives. Whatever concerns or challenges you may have, we’re here to help you explore strategies that will help.
Suicide Intervention Program
The Suicide Intervention Program (SIP) works to reduce the risk of self-harming behaviors. By reaching out to students who are referred to SIP, our goal is to help establish a connection to a supportive resource such as the Counseling Center, Disability Resources for Students, Hall Health, or an off-campus provider. This program is not designed to intervene in an emergency (always call 911 if there is imminent risk or danger). This program connects students to support services who may be struggling to connect on their own or who may be in need of outreach and support.
Survivor Support & Advocacy
Our LiveWell Advocate provides a safe and confidential space to support students, faculty and staff who have experienced an incident of Sexual Assault, Relationship Violence, Stalking, or Sexual Harassment. We support individuals and help them understand their options for reporting both on campus and in the larger community, provide academic advocacy, and safety plan — always with the understanding that it is up to the student to make decisions about next steps and whether or not they want to report to campus officials or the Police.
