Uterine biopsies may be recommended if you’re experiencing irregular bleeding or if an ultrasound shows abnormalities in the uterus. Biopsies of the vulvar or vaginal areas can be done in-office under local anesthesia if needed. Cervical biopsies are typically performed when there are concerns following an abnormal Pap smear.
We’ll walk you through the process, explain your options, and make sure you’re as comfortable as possible every step of the way.
At the Husky Health OB/GYN Clinic, we offer a full range of reproductive care and family planning services to support your health at every stage. Our services include various birth control options, pre-pregnancy planning, basic infertility evaluation, miscarriage counseling and management, pregnancy testing, options counseling, and medication abortion.
We provide many contraceptive options, including the birth control pill, patch, ring, shot, and diaphragm. We also offer IUD and Nexplanon implant insertions and removals, with both copper and progesterone-containing IUDs available.
Our providers offer three types of emergency contraception-Paragard IUD, Ella, and Plan B-and provide counseling to help you choose the best option for you. Plan B emergency contraception is available without a prescription at Rubenstein Pharmacy, most other pharmacies, and even in a vending machine on campus at Odegaard Library.
If a Pap smear is abnormal, we may recommend a colposcopy- a closer exam of the cervix where biopsies of any abnormal areas may be taken. In some cases, a LEEP procedure may be required to remove high grade or persistently abnormal cells on the cervix. This is done in the office under local anesthetic.

If it is less than 120 hours (five days) since you experienced sexual assault, we encourage you to go to the University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake Emergency Department. It is located near the UW Seattle campus by Husky Stadium. There, a specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) can provide trauma-informed medical care and, if you choose, collect evidence for a sexual assault exam. You are not required to make a police report to receive a SANE exam.
> There is no cost for a SANE exam.
> You may bring a support person (friend, family member, or advocate) with you.
> Preserving evidence within 120 hours helps keep your options open, should you choose to report later.
Husky Health Center does not have SANE-trained staff, but we are here to support you with the following services:
A medical exam to assess any injuries
Emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy
STI testing
Medications to reduce the risk of HIV and other STIs (prophylaxis).
Whatever you choose, our staff will provide compassionate, confidential care and help you access any additional support you may need.
STI screening is quick and simple and may involve a physical exam, blood tests, or a swab to check for infections. If you’re diagnosed with an STI, don’t worry-we have a variety of treatment options. Some STIs can be treated with antibiotics, while others may require ongoing management with medication. For genital warts, cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen) is a safe and effective treatment option.
Our goal is to support your health in a confidential and non-judgmental way, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have along the way.
