Biopsies
Uterine biopsies may be indicated for various forms of irregular bleeding or ultrasound abnormalities of the uterus. Biopsies of the vulvar or vaginal areas can be done under local anesthesia if indicated.
Birth Control and Family Planning
Our care includes a full range of family planning services, including a variety of birth control options, pre-pregnancy planning, basic infertility evaluation, miscarriage counseling and management, and pregnancy testing and options counseling.
We offer many contraceptive options including the birth control pill, patch, ring, shot and diaphragm. We also perform IUD and Nexplanon implant insertions and removals. We offer both the copper IUD and all three progesterone-containing IUDs.
Our providers offer three types of Emergency Contraception (EC) – Paragard copper IUD, Ella, Plan B – and help patients decide among their options. Plan B is also available over the counter at Hall Health Pharmacy, most other pharmacies, and a vending machine on campus at Odegaard Library.
Colposcopy and LEEP
In the case of an abnormal Pap smear, we may need to perform a colposcopy. This is a more in-depth exam of the cervix during which we may take biopsies of abnormal areas on the cervix.
In some cases a LEEP procedure may be required to remove high grade or persistently abnormal cells on the cervix. This is done in the office under local anesthetic.

Sexual Assault Care
If it is less than 120 hours (five days) since you experienced sexual assault, Hall Health Center encourages patients to seek care at the University of Washington Medical Center Montlake ER. It is located near UW Seattle campus, by the Husky Stadium. They will handle all aspects of your assault related medical care and refer you to support resources.
If you are interested in evidence collection as well as medical care, you must go to a hospital with trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE), such as the University of Washington Medical Center Montlake. SANE nurses are trained to work with patients who have been sexually assaulted.
- You are not required to make a police report to get a SANE exam.
- There is no charge for a SANE exam.
- You may bring a friend or family member with you.
- Preserving evidence keeps your options open in case you decide to report.
It is recommended to be treated as soon as possible; evidence is best collected within 120 hours (five days) of the assault.
Hall Health Center does not have a SANE nurse, but does offer:
- A physical exam that will identify any injuries.
- Emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy.
- Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing.
- Medication (prophylaxis) to prevent contracting HIV and other STIs.
STI Screening and Treatment
STIs are diagnosed through physical examination, blood tests, or swabbed cultures. Some STIs can be treated with antibiotic medication; others have no cure but can be managed with medication. In the case of genital warts, cryotherapy, or the freezing of warts with liquid nitrogen, may be a treatment option.
Annual Physical Exams and Screening

I think I might be pregnant. How can you help me?
You can visit Hall Health in person and ask to speak with the Consulting Nurse without an appointment. The nurse will talk with you and can order a pregnancy test. Over-the-counter pregnancy tests are also available through the Hall Health Pharmacy.
If you are pregnant, the Consulting Nurse or our Patient Healthcare Advocate can review the options for pregnancy management with you. They can assist you in finding a prenatal care provider or can provide you with referrals to outside providers for abortion care.
Hall Health Center’s own obstetrician-gynecologists provide prenatal care in the OB/GYN Clinic with delivery at UWMC.
