Suicide Intervention Program

LiveWell Suicide Intervention Program

The Suicide Intervention Program (SIP) connect students to campus resources when incidents of concern related to suicidal thoughts and actions are reported to the University. SIP meetings are held with professional staff members who work with students to come up with a plan for care based on students’ needs and individual circumstances.

Please note this program is not designed to intervene in an emergency. If you, or someone you know is in an urgent situation and needs an immediate response contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or call 911 for emergent situations and an immediate response.

LiveWell is available for response and follow-up after the immediate emergency has been addressed.

When to make a referral?

  • Student expressing suicidal thoughts or plans who may not be connected to mental health services.
  • Student who may need support with their academics after a mental health hospitalization or intensive treatment program.
  • Student in need assistance connecting to therapy on campus or in the community, or reaffirming any mental health connections they may already have in place.
  • A student has posted, emailed, texted or made statements about ending their life or alluding to suicide.
  • You become aware that a student has a past history of suicide and you are concerned about recent behavior that indicates they may be considering suicide again.
  • Attempts to connect a student you are worried about to therapy or mental health services like the Counseling Center has not been successful, or you are not able to confirm if a student is connected to a therapist or counselor.
