HSIP Fees FY27 (Academic Year 2026-2027)

The Health Sciences Immunization Program (HSIP) fee is calculated based on the HSIP operations budget and a long-term average of bloodborne pathogen exposure costs. These line costs are combined and charged to each student individually.

HSIP FEE COMPONENTS

There are two components to the HSIP fee, described below and outlined in Table 1.

This fee covers HSIP administrative costs and includes staff and operations. An analysis of HSIP administrative costs is provided in Table 3.

1. Base Fee ($77)

HSIP has the following roles:

  1. provide education about immunization requirements and processes to students and school/program staff,
  2. answer student immunization questions,
  3. collaborate with school/program partners to address compliance issues,
  4. implement registration holds for non-compliance (for most programs),
  5. manage the HSIP immunization tracking system and associated vendor relationship(s),
  6. review and update compliance requirements within HSIP’s immunization tracking system; and
  7. collaborate with the UW Registrar’s Office, UW-IT, Health Sciences Associate Deans, and other University units to ensure smooth processes.

The EH&S medical director provides medical oversight of HSIP. HSIP operational costs include staff salaries, office equipment, supplies, and other operating expenses. We calculate the per-student base fee by totaling the program’s administrative costs and dividing by the anticipated total number of students in HSIP participating programs each year.

2. Exposure Risk Fee (Dentistry: $60 | Medicine: $11 | Other: $2)

The Exposure Risk Fee is based on a long-term average of bloodborne pathogen exposure costs associated with student exposures within each school/program. The Exposure Risk Fee recovers set costs that HSIP pays for student utilization of UW and UW Medicine Employee Health Centers (EHCs) and an estimated amount to be paid to outside providers. The fee also covers immediate post-exposure care, follow-up, and access to consultation with the EH&S medical director, as needed.

Vendor Account Fee: The HSIP fee does not include the cost of purchasing an account with an HSIP-contracted third-party vendor for immunization compliance tracking software and services. The required vendor account cost may range from $24 to $43 and is paid by the student directly to the vendor.

3. Program Transition to the Husky Health Center

On January 1, 2025, HSIP moved organizationally from EH&S to the Husky Health Center. This move
places HSIP under the same student services unit that has long administered UW’s general student immunization requirement for the tri-campus system via the Immunity Verification Program (IVP). The Husky Health Center is continuing to integrate operational aspects of the IVP and HSIP programs with the goal of increasing efficiencies and lowering administrative costs for both programs. The outcome of this work will be reflected in HSIP’s program fees and vendor system costs in the years to come.

Table 1: 2026-2027 Annual HSIP Fee Rates

Base Admin Fee Exposure Risk Fee Total FY27 Annual Fee* (Academic Year 26-27) Programs that have 3 Quarters per Year Programs that have 4 Quarters Per Year
School of Dentistry $77 $60 $137 n/a $34
School of Medicine $77 $11 $88 n/a $22
All other HSIP Participating Schools/Programs $77 $2 $79 $26 $20
*The annual fee is divided by either 3 or 4 quarters/year depending on the program and rounded to the nearest dollar. The
fee is applied as a line item on the student’s tuition statement and paid through the registrar’s office.

**During the 24-25 academic year (FY25), HSIP fees were temporarily reduced due to a mandatory surplus reduction.
**The percentage increase in HSIP fees compared to the current academic year. The 1% increase in fees in the “all other
programs” category is eliminated when split into quarterly charges and rounded to the nearest dollar. All HSIP fees remain
constant from the prior year.
