Eligibility

Who Can Use Services At Husky Health Center?

Most UW students pay a Services and Activities Fee that helps to fund services at Husky Health Center.

Since this fee is responsible for many of the high-quality services at Husky Health Center, only students who pay that fee are eligible for those services.

Click the button below to use our eligibility tool and see which services you are eligible to use at Husky Health Center, or continue below to read our eligibility guidelines.

CHECK YOUR ELIGIBILITY

New Patients

Except as provided below:

  • New patient eligibility is limited to enrolled SAF-paying UW Seattle students who are at least 14 years of age.
  • Eligibility does not extend to dependents, partners, or beneficiaries of eligible students.
  • Non-matriculated students, postdoctoral students, visiting scholars, and students enrolled in other programs that do not pay the SAF are not eligible.

Dates of Eligibility:

  • Newly admitted students who will meet eligibility criteria during their first quarter at UW may be seen at HHC no earlier than two months before the beginning of the month in which they first attend UW, as follows: July 1 for fall quarter, Nov 1 for winter quarter, and Jan 1 for spring quarter.
  • Students who meet eligibility criteria in two consecutive quarters maintain eligibility during break periods between those quarters. This includes summer break for students who meet eligibility criteria in the preceding spring quarter and the following autumn quarter.
  • Eligibility ends prior to the first day of a quarter in which a student no longer meets eligibility criteria.
  • Eligibility ends immediately upon withdrawal for students who drop all enrolled courses on or before the 7th day of a quarter. Students who withdraw after the 7th day of a quarter remain eligible for the duration of that quarter.

Established Patients

  • Eligibility for a previously established patient aged 14 or older continues, regardless of their enrollment status, if they remain an established patient at HHC. An established patient is one who has been seen for a Primary Care or Same Day appointment at HHC within the last three years.
  • Previously established patients who have not been seen within the last three years must meet the eligibility criteria for new patients to re-establish care at HHC.

Exceptions

The Rubenstein Pharmacy and UW Medicine Laboratory at the David C. Hall Building are independent units, not funded by SAF, and are open to the public with no eligibility restrictions.

The specialty services of HHC include Sports Medicine, OB/GYN, Immunizations, and Travel Clinic. Specialty services may accept new non-student patients when there is adequate capacity and their acceptance would not negatively impact access by eligible students. New non-student patients with Medicaid are not eligible for specialty services at HHC, but may visit other UW Medicine locations. This eligibility does not extend to HHC Primary Care or HHC Same Day Care, even once established as a patient in an HHC specialty care clinic.

  • OB/GYN physicians may accept dependents of eligible UW Seattle students on ISHIP or GAIP for pregnancy care.
  • OB/GYN physicians may accept new non-student patients referred for specialty GYN services.
  • Travel providers may accept new patients employed at UW Seattle or dependents of eligible UW Seattle students on ISHIP or GAIP.
  • Sports Medicine physicians may accept new non-student patients referred for specialty services.

Students of other UW campuses who do not pay UW Seattle SAF and who are on ISHIP or GAIP may obtain services at HHC for immunizations.

A student who is expelled from the UW for a conduct or other legal violation, who is excluded from campus or prohibited from accessing university property, or a patient who has been terminated from HHC for non-compliance or other misconduct, is no longer eligible for any services at HHC, subject to 30-day written notice for established patients.

Other exceptions may be recommended by a director and require approval by the Executive Director.
