Hall Health Billing

Bill in the mail?

Hall Health bills health insurance for most services. You may receive a bill in the mail associated with your care. Even though you may have gone to Hall Health, there are different entities within our building that may bill for care.

If you receive a letter that says “Explanation of Benefits” and is from your insurance company, it is not a bill. If you do have an out-of-pocket cost, you will receive a bill from UW Physicians, the entity that manages billing for provider time, UW Department of Laboratory Medicine, for lab services, or Hall Health Center. Often, a bill will arrive 2-4 weeks after an explanation of benefits letter.

You may receive an explanation of benefits but not ultimately be billed if you are a current student and you received subsidized services. Read more about subsidized services.

Hall Health Billing (medical and mental health services)

Our Billing office is currently closed due to staff illness. For assistance, email uwhhc@uw.edu with questions. The best way to determine how much you owe or make payment for medical or mental health care is to call UW Physicians (see above). Contact the Lab Billing office (see below) to make payment on lab bills.

Collections

If you have a bill that has not been paid for 120 days or longer, it will be sent to collections. To pay your bill, you will need to contact State Collection Service at 1.800.477.7474. See information below about how to get a registration hold lifted.

 

Billing policies

Costs and insurance for non-students

All non-student patients are charged a fee for service. We will directly bill your insurance plan whenever possible. All patients are responsible for co-payments and non-covered services. You can learn more about your health insurance by following the instructions here.

Please note that Hall Health Center is not able to see new non-student patients with the following insurance plans, or any other ACN plan:

  • Apple Health (Medicaid) – any managed care plan (Molina, Coordinated Care, Amerigroup, CHPW, United)
  • UMP Plus – PSHVN (Puget Sound)
  • UMP Plus – UW Medicine ACN
  • Boeing ACN UW Medicine Advantage Plus 8070
  • Boeing ACN UW Medicine Select Network 8069
  • Boeing ACN UW Medicine Traditional 8068

If you do not have health insurance, you will be asked to make a deposit at the time of your appointment.  The amount of the deposit will be specified when you schedule an appointment with our Patient Service Center.  This may or may not cover the total cost of the visit.

Please note that some Hall Health services are not available to non-students even with contracted insurance, including:

  • Services through our same-day care clinic
  • In-person drop-in medical advice through our Consulting Nurses
  • Mental health care through our Mental Health Clinic

The following services are not available to non-students without first establishing care at Hall Health by scheduling an appointment with a medical provider:

  • Immunizations
  • Lab tests

Charity care

Hall Health does not receive government funding and cannot provide reduced-fee services of any kind beyond the subsidized services offered to currently matriculated UW-Seattle students.

If you are uninsured or underinsured and seeking affordable care, it may be beneficial to establish care with a Community Health Center.

Bothell & Tacoma students

Bothell and Tacoma students are welcome to visit Hall Health for their care, including for immunizations and blood tests associated with the UW General Immunization Requirement or Health Sciences Immunization Program.

However, before you seek care at Hall Health, review the following points:

  • We are not able to accept new non-UW-Seattle students with Medicaid (Apple Health). If you have Apple Health, we’d suggest visiting your managed care plan’s website to find an alternative contracted provider. 
  • You will need to establish care at Hall Health by seeing a medical provider (MD or NP) prior to obtaining immunizations, blood tests, or medical advice from a nurse.
  • We will bill your insurance for the visit to establish care as well as any other services you receive. Be sure you understand your insurance and that it is contracted with us.
  • Some services are not available to you, including services through our Mental Health Clinic, care through our same-day clinic, and in-person medical advice from a nurse.

Confidentiality, insurance, and deposits

If you previously allowed us to bill your insurance, and now ask us to not bill it due to confidentiality concerns, we will ask you for a $200 deposit at check-in. You will be reimbursed if the cost of your care is less than $200.

This may happen if a student is concerned about their family finding out about services they sought (i.e., STI testing, birth control). Hall Health would never release this information without your explicit consent, but insurance companies follow different rules.

If you have health insurance through a family member, it is possible that the primary subscriber could find out which services you received if they were to receive a statement in the mail from the insurance company. However, you can call your insurance company and ask them to send any statements to you directly. Be sure that the billing address Hall Health has on file for you is your own and not your family’s.
